Samsung CLX 2160 N – The Wallet Friendly And Trustworthy Printer
The CLX-2160N is one best and most recent offerings from Samsung. It’s a multifunction unit which means it can do more things than just print. In addition to being able to print in full color, it also scans and copies in color. It packs a lot of power into such a small footprint. In fact, it’s one of the smallest of its kind in the world today. Printers that do more things than just print are known affectionately as MFP devices. The best toner for this printer is the Samsung CLX 2160 N printer toner.
MFP is a short term for multi-functioning printer, which means it has different functional qualities. The Samsung CLX 2160N printer has qualities such as a color laser printer, a scanner, and a copier. Like most Samsungs printers this printer does not have a fax function (reasons will be stated below). It is definitely not a cheap kind of printer, however you don’t need to take out a loan to buy one. Note that the N in the product title of Samsung CLX 2160N means that this is a network-ready product. It can be used by all computers on that same network simply by plugging it directly into a router (a network switch like device).
The CLX 2160 N printer toner is a powdery substance you buy in neat little containers that come in black, red, yellow and blue. Melting toner is how you get text and pictures on a piece of paper. The Samsung CLX 2160N converts the toner into ink (by melting) which is what we call print. This toner is about the size of a small tube.
Knowing the Samsung CLX-2160N uses 4 toners, the speed for the color laser is 4ppm in A4. It is important to realize that there are two different types of print out times, color and the mono (a fancy word for black and white). The print out time for the color is 26 seconds. The print out time for the mono is 46 seconds. The manual however is duplex.
The function of the scanner quality is important to this model printer because if converts the paper you put into it into images you can see over screen. The scanner for this printer can scan to USB/Folder/Application/Network. It has a dpi of 1,200×500. The bed isn’t very big so don’t expect to be able to scan anything bigger than an A5 document. In other words, this isn’t the scanner of choice for a law office unless you want to scan each legal document twice.
There are two types of speeds in the copy, the Mono and the Color. In the Mono the speed is up to 16ppm in A4, and the color is up to 4ppm in A4. First copy out time in mono is 18 seconds while the first copy out time in color is 45 seconds.
Unlike most of other Samsung printers this printer due to it’s small size, try as hard as they could, the boys in the white coats at Samsung labs just couldn’t get the fax function into this puppy. You wouldn’t think that space has a lot to do with it but I guess it does. Either that or they wanted to keep the price down or they want you to pay more for a printer that faxes too. Hard to say how these guys think.
A Samsung CLX-2160N printer is costly (again, everything is relative), compared to the big bulky printers but as they say, comparing apples to apples, there isn’t an apple out there to compare this unit to. I guess it comes to down to what you want and what you’re willing to pay for it. The price varies from a high of around UDS$420 to under USD$200 the last time I looked at Egghead.
